The township and section grids available from this page are based on the Bureau of Land Management's official protraction diagrams for Alaska.
See the metadata for a description of each dataset and attributes associated with it.
The protracted grids are available as shapefiles or ArcInfo export files of the respective coverages.
Due to the size of the section grid coverage it is available as 6 separate download files, each approximately 20Mb in size. All files must be downloaded and reassembled in order to use the export file (see below). Files are available in either a gzip and tar/gzip format. The size of each file is shown in parenthesis in the table below. See space requirements for the size of the files when uncompressed.
NOTE - If you click on a link and it displays the file in your browser, right click on the link and choose "Save link as..." or the equivalent.
| Dataset | ArcInfo Export File (.e00) | Shapefile | Documentation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Township Grid | twpgrid.e00.gz (3885Kb) | twpgrid.tar.gz (2548Kb) | Metadata |
| Section Grid | sec_e00_aa (20Mb) sec_e00_ab (20Mb) sec_e00_ac (20Mb) sec_e00_ad (20Mb) sec_e00_ae (20Mb) sec_e00_af (11Mb) |
secgrid.tar.gz (29Mb) | Metadata |
The six section files need to be concatenated in order to recreate the secgrid.e00.gz file:
copy /B sec_e00_aa+sec_e00_ab+sec_e00_ac+sec_e00_ad+sec_e00_ae+sec_e00_af secgrid.e00.gz
The table below shows the space requirements for each of the files when uncompressed. Note that the sizes shown in the table do not include the size of the download files (i.e. you must have enough disk space for both the download file and the uncompressed file).
| File Name | Content | Uncompressed Size (Mb) |
|---|---|---|
| twpgrid.e00.gz | Township grid ArcInfo export file | 28 |
| twpgrid.tar.gz | Township grid shapefile | 11 |
| secgrid.e00.gz | Section grid ArcInfo export file | 688 |
| secgrid.tar.gz | Section grid shapefile | 183 |
