This landcover map of the Arctic National Wildlife derived from LANDSAT Multi-Spectral Scanner (MSS) satellite imagery. The mapping project was conducted jointly between the EROS Alaska Field Office, U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The map was originally produced with 50-meter pixel-resolution. This map has been resampled to create a 200-meter pixel-resolution product. The map depicts 23 classes: 01 Closed Needleleaf; 02 Open Needleleaf; 03 Needleleaf Woodland; 04 Mixed Forest; 05 Deciduous Forest/Tall Shrub; 06 Alluvial Deciduous Scrub; 07 Dry Prostrate Dwarf Scrub; 08 Moist Prostrate Dwarf Scrub; 09 Mesic Erect Dwarf Scrub; 10 Very Wet Graminoid; 11 Wet Graminoid; 12 Moist/Wet Tundra Complex; 13 Moist Graminoid Tussock; 14 Barren Floodplain; 15 Barren Scree; 16 Scarcely Vegetated Floodplain; 17 Scarcely Vegetated Scree; 18 Clear Water; 19 Shallow Water; 20 Offshore Water; 21 Clouds/Snow/Ice; 22 Shadow; 23 Roads; This map was published in 1986.
