Alaska Ecoregions Mapping

Unified Ecoregions of Alaska: 2001. This ecoregion map combines the Bailey and Omernik approach to ecoregion mapping in Alaska. The ecoregions were developed cooperatively by the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, The Nature Conservancy, and personnel from many other agencies and private organizations. Ecoregions of Alaska. The U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency completed a cooperative project to develop an Ecoregions Map and corresponding digital data base for the State of Alaska. This work in Alaska is a continuation of a program completed for the EPA for the conterminous U.S. and is parallel to the Ecological Land Classification Program conducted in Canada by Environment Canada. The ecoregion units were intended for use by EPA for stratification and reporting in its monitoring activities, including the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP), and by the USGS in its North American Land Characterization work funded by the U.S. Global Change Program.
