nawqa_lakes is a polygon coverage of lakes greater than 20 acres that are
located in the Cook Inlet National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) study unit.
The Cook Inlet Basin is located in southcentral Alaska. The coverage was
created using 1:2,000,000 digital line graphs (DLGs).
The purpose of nawqa_lakes is to provide a general overview of the number of
lakes greater than 20 acres that are located in the Cook Inlet NAWQA study
unit. This coverage, along with other coverages of the Cook Inlet Basin will
be used to determine water-quality sampling locations.
Limitations_of_Data:
The coverage was created from 1:2,000,000 digital line graphs. Thus, caution
should be used if the coverage is used at smaller scales.
Standard items are found in the polygon attribute data with the exception of the
item MIN. MIN = 100 indicates the polygon is a lake. Standard items are found in
the arc attribute table with the exception of the item LINECODE. LINECODE = L
indicates that the arc is part of the lake.
Procedures_Used:
Coverage was created by Alaska Department of Natural Resources (ADNR)
and USGS personnel using USGS 1:2,000,000 digital line graphs (DLG) datasets.
Techniques are described by Domaratz and others (1982). Only those polygons
representing lakes having an area greater than 20 acres were kept.
