As part of an interagency agreement between the National Park
Service (NPS) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), basin
characteristics are being determined for a number of watersheds
in National Parks of Alaska. Many of the characteristics are
being determined by use of Geographical Information Systems
(GIS). GiS coverages are being made available to other interested
parties.
The purpose of this data set is to provide the NPS information about the precipitation of the Lake Clark Basin to do basic spatial analysis. A GIS coverage of the precipitation of the Lake Clark Basin can be used to determine the amount of precipitation for a given watershed. Knowledge of the amount of precipitation for a watershed can explain some of the runoff characteristics for the basin. More knowledge and understanding of the Lake Clark Basin will help the NPS in making sound management decisions.
